Brazil: sponsored Facebook and Instagram posts mentioning Lula and Bolsonaro 2022

As of August 15, 2022, the number of sponsored posts on Facebook and Instagram mentioning the Brazilian president Jair Messias Bolsonaro was higher than those referencing former Chief of State and opposing presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In July, 5,900 sponsored posts mentioned the current president against 4,400 dedicated to his opponent. Among the 22,766 pushed posts on both platforms, only 2,373 mentioned both candidates, who currently lead the polls in the run for the highest chair in the country. Overall, Facebook and Instagram have been the most used social media platforms by political candidates in Brazil ahead of its general elections, set for October 2022.
